Posterior Pigment Epithelium

Tight junctions (arrows) like those in the sphincter muscle are found between the dilator muscle cells. A basement membrane (c) surrounds the muscle processes. Unmyelinated nerves and their associated Schwann cells (d) as well is a few naked axons innervate the muscle. The axon at (e) is in close contact with the anterior epithelium, being separated from it by a space measuring 200 A. in width. The cytoplasm of the epithelial portions contains cell organelles. melanin granules, the nucleus and bundles of myofilaments.
