Anatomy of the Eye

This cross-sectional micrograph illustrates the approximate arrangement of the anterior segment of the eye. The iris is contracted due to dissection. Aqueous fluid is produced by the ciliary body and exits via Schlemm's Canal at the iris angle at the rate of 2 microliters/minute. This fluid nourishes the avascular transparent media (cornea, lens, and vitreous) and pressurizes the globe with about 15mm Hg hydrostatic pressure.
